Busy, growing and moving

The Army is busy, growing and moving, and the Army Force Generation Model is the key to giving soldiers more predictability, the deputy commanding general of Army Materiel Command said Thursday.
“ARFORGEN is here to stay,” Lt. Gen. James Pillsbury said. “We must be more predictive for our young soldiers and our old soldiers and their families, and how we’re going to do this, I think, in the future, is having the headquarters of the Army do the things they do very well, policy, budgeting, while the execution of this ARFORGEN rests outside the Beltway.”
In addition, the Army must look at its equipping and reset strategy as soldiers serve repeat deployments and fight in persistent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, Pillsbury said.
“The key term is persistent,” he said. “We’re going to be at this for awhile.”
